Board – My Baby’s Got LED

This looks like a great way to recycle an ATX power supply and use it for blinking lights. The “My Baby’s Got LED” board is powered by a standard ATX power supply and has a built-in ESP8266 board. These boards use WLED from https://github.com/Aircoookie/WLED, so they should be easy in add to a light show.
2021-05-17 Update – Arthur from mcqn, the board’s creator, let me know they have an updated version of the board with 3 8A fuses.

Ever want to take a deep dive into the WS2812 protocol? This article is a great read about how these LEDs work and the nuances of controlling them. The second part, at https://cpldcpu.wordpress.com/2014/01/19/light_ws2812-library-v2-0/, gets into the code, which you can explore at https://github.com/cpldcpu/light_ws2812.
Thanks for the shout out! You’re spot on about reusing old PSUs – we’ve accumulated a drawer full of them from a local IT reuse organisation.
We’ve recently updated the board – it now has three injection points with 8A fuses on each line, to mitigate the risk of someone attempting to put all 500W from an ATX power supply through one line. The board is also now OSHW certified! That means the hardware, software and documentation are all open source.
