Project / Code – 16^3 RGB LED Cube
Check out Malt Whiskey’s giant 16 x 16 x 16 (4096) RGB LED cube project. His build video give a great amount of insight about how much effort it takes to pull of a project like this. At its core is a Teensy 4.0 with a custom PCB to run 32 channels of data with 128 LEDs each. Visit https://github.com/MaltWhiskey/Mega-Cube for all the resources. There is also a write up at https://hackaday.com/2021/11/04/big-rgb-led-cube-you-can-build-too/ for this project.
Even more info can be found at https://forum.pjrc.com/threads/59023-queued-TriantaduoWS2811-a-32-channel-WS*-library-for-Teensy-4-0-using-FlexIO-amp-DMA
Of key interest for my light shows is the sheer horsepower that a single Teensy 4.0 is able to deliver and the TriantaduoWS2811 library from https://github.com/wramsdell/TriantaduoWS2811. This would be a significant upgrade to the Teensy 3.2 that I’m using today.
